Visit the Thermal museum and Roman Catacombs Museum in one day and take advantage of an interesting discount.

The Roman Catacombs Museum:
Experience the hidden Rome in an underground labyrinth. A visit to the Roman Catacombs Museum is a fascinating and unforgettable experience. Wandering through the subterranean corridors, you will travel back in time with expert guides to the Rome of the third and fourth centuries. You descend to the graves of ordinary Roman citizens and to the magnificent, colourful burial chambers of prominent Romans. The richly decorated crypts are overwhelmingly beautiful. The frescoes reveal special stories, ancient rituals, and surprising scenes from everyday life. The museum was founded in 1910 by Jan Diepen, son of a wealthy textile industrialist, in collaboration with the famous architect Pierre Cuypers.

The Thermal Museum (Thermenmuseum):
The current south of Limburg (most southern part of the Netherlands) has been part of the Roman Empire for over four centuries. Conquered by Julius Caesar – around 50 BC – it was Emperor Augustus who established the region as the new province of Rome. In the Thermal museum in Heerlen you will find the impressive remains of a Roman bathhouse, the baths. It is the best preserved Roman (public) bathhouse in the Netherlands. The museum also has a varied collection of utensils from Roman times, originating from Coriovallum – the Roman city below Heerlen.
